Dark and Darker’s latest round of Hotfixes, Hotfix #69 is now live and brings some big changes to the game, especially with the way the dev team will now approach itemization.
As the dev team says, the changes are designed to “grants players a wide range of diversity in building their Dark and Darker characters and offers a satisfying combat feel”. So today, we’re checking out the latest batch of changes to see what’s new to get you up to speed.

Hotfix #69 Changes
The biggest change with Hotfix #69 in Dark and Darker is the dev team are actively implementing ways to reduce time spent grinding to feel they’re powerful enough to engage with the game competitively.
To do this, they’ve implemented their previously announced ‘paradigm shift’ for how Dark and Darker items work and are designed.
One of the big changes is that for a majority of Dark and Darker in-game weapons and equipment, their primary attributes have been flattened. This change means that the difference between Dark and Darker item grades is based on the number of ‘random modifiers’ added to the gear.
However, Poor items will always have the lowest primary roll so they’re still slightly different from common-rarity items. Additionally, a majority bonus primary stats your character receives from items to epic quality items have been ‘normalized’.
Besides these changes which we’ll get into more specifics below, there are a variety of fixes to in-game issues which have been ironed out.
That said, here are the specific changes you should know about in Dark and Darker Hotfix #69:
General Changes
- Max health reduced by -15
- Most items have similar base properties (major balance changes mentioned above).
- Max Health & Max Health Bonus are now in the same random modifier family.
- Additional Movespeed and Movespeed Bonux now in the same random modifier family.
- Random modifiers in the ‘same’ family group will not appear simultaneously on one item.
- Existing items with ‘same’ family group modifiers, the ‘bonus’ option will reroll to a new modifier.
- Void Blade and Demon’s Glee ‘additional magic damage’ changed to magic Dark and Darker weapon damage.
- Impact Resistance for ‘Lantern Shield’ increased from 3 to 4.
- Item drop rates that spawn outside of chests improved.
- Dungeon Recovery not available from ‘High Roller’.
- Added a new Lobby skin system.
- Halloween-themed skins available in store.
- Slight QoL improvements for Dungeon Recovery system & Marketplace.
Class Changes
Fighter
- Weapon Mastery also reduces magical damage bonuses.
- Physical & magical damage bonuses reduced by -5%
Barbarian
- Base Strength increased from 20 to 25.
- Base Resourcefulness decreased from 12 to 7.
- Axe Specialisation additional Weapon Damage increased from 3 to 5.
- Two-Hander now additionally increases Armor Penetration by 15%.
- Barbarian ‘Rage’ values increased from 10 Strength, 10 Vigor, -10% Physical Damage Reduction, 10% Movement Speed Bonus to 15 Strength, 15 Vigor, -15% Physical Damage Reduction, 15% Movement Speed Bonus.
Rogue
- Poisoned Weapons apply 10% healing reduction per stack to a max of 50% with 5 stacks.
Wizard
- Magic Missle spell count increased from 5 to 10.
- Fireball damage decreased from 25/12 to 25/10.
- Explosion damage decreased from 28 to 25.
Cleric
- Cleanse now detoxifies poison.
Warlock
- Torture Mastery attribute bonus ratio increased from 10% to 15%.
And those are all the latest changes from Dark and Darker’s Hotfix #69. As you can tell, these changes will have quite the impact for PvP in particular but whether it’s a welcome change is another question all together.
